What Will You Be Doing?

A question has stirred within me lately, maybe haunting me. What will Jesus catch me doing when He returns?

I believe He’s returning soon. As Jesus said in Luke 21:29–31, we can look at the fig tree and know the season. Looking around the world and all the crazy stuff happening, I believe we’re in the season of Jesus ‘s return. But we don’t know the day or the hour, only that it will happen quickly.

What will I be doing? What will I be thinking?

Will I be reading the Bible?

Watching a movie with my wife and son?

Having lunch with my family?

Mowing my neighbor’s yard?

Cooking barbecue for a friend?

Uttering a bad word because I got my lawnmower stuck in a hole in my neighbor’s yard?

Or saying something rude and mean to my wife?

I wonder because I’ve done all of the above over the last 24 hours. I’m not legalistic, nor do I think perfection is possible, but I should do my best to live as if the Lord will return at any moment. And what do I want to be found doing? This question keeps me focused and on my toes.

Same mindset for non-Christians

You don’t have to be a Christian to adopt this same mindset. You don’t know when you’re going to die or have a heart attack. Do you want to have a stroke while watching porn only to have your daughter come home and find you with your laptop open?

Or have a heart attack while in a hotel with your mistress? Imagine your poor wife’s own heart when she asks the doctor where you were when the attack happened.

We don’t live for ourselves, especially if we have a spouse and children. I live for them, but mostly one day, I want to hear God say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:23)
